Wedding Trends: Your Wedding, Your Rules

Are you getting married this year? If so, you may be interested to read about wedding trends for your wedding year. Luckily, doing your own thing and being true to yourself at your wedding is part of what is really trending this year!

Themes have gotten pretty popular over the years and more and more couples plan their special day around a theme that really represents and reflects the bride and groom. Putting your own personal swing at your wedding is one of the major trends for 2024!

Your Own Custom Theme

Many couples in 2024 will replace the traditional afternoon wedding and evening reception with a casual intimate evening with family and friends. Smaller weddings are trending this year and reduce the stress level of the bride and groom while lending a much more personal touch to the evening.

Original Venues

In days gone by, one had to get married in a church. Then, people started getting married in halls to eliminate traveling from the church to the hall. Nowadays, couples are tying the knot in original destinations that express the personality of the bride and groom.

Examples of original destination weddings are: barn weddings, beach weddings, winery weddings or even getting married in the spot where you met or in a park or at a campground.

DIY Flowers & Decor

With the age of YouTube and popular crafty websites giving instructions on how to make wedding bouquets, corsages, centerpieces, favors, invitations, floral arrangements and more, today’s brides are well capable of making their own wedding decorations and flowers. Saving money is one of the top reasons for DIY flowers and decor but personalization and pride in making your own is another wonderful reason to decide to DIY.

Non-Traditional Wedding Bouquets

Flowers are an essential part of walking down the aisle for a bride’s big day. However, maybe you want to be different and not carry a traditional floral bouquet down the aisle. This year, go for it! You can walk down the aisle holding a kissing ball, an elaborate wrist corsage, a purse decorated with flowers or a bouquet combining flowers and feathers, flowers and pinecones or flowers and seashells. Or maybe you have a green thumb and want a long-lasting souvenir of your wedding. In this case, create a bouquet out of a variety of succulents that you can transplant after the wedding for a long-lasting reminder of your special day.

Tasting Stations

Are you tired of the traditionally served wedding supper? Instead of going for the obvious buffet-style meal, set up tasting stations throughout the party and let your guests feast on a variety of appetizers and hors d’oeuvres. Decorate the stations in the theme and style of your wedding to integrate them into your wedding decor and to add excitement to your wedding reception. You can then follow up the appetizer rounds with dinner and dessert.. or not. It’s up to you!

To summarize, your wedding day is yours and yours alone. Never mind trying to please everyone else and really express yourself through your choice of venue, flowers, decor, food, etc… 2024 is the year of custom weddings so don’t be shy to express yourself and have fun with the biggest day of your life.
